Squadron Annual General Meeting 9th April 2018

It is the Squadron's Annual General Meeting of the Civilian Committee on the 9th April 2018.

The AGM will take place at the Squadron HQ from 1900.

All parents/guardians are welcome to attend as in addition to the Committee meeting there will be display of cadet activities and equipment. There may even be a quiz.

Annual Awards Evening of 2494 (Portishead) Squadron 27th January

Annual Awards Evening of 2494 (Portishead) Squadron. This is to be held on the 27th January 2018 at Clevedon Hall, Elton Rd, Clevedon BS21 7RH.

The awards evening is always a good time for the parents to interact with the cadets and staff of the Squadron, and the staff will be more than happy to answer any questions that anyone may have. It is also a chance for the cadets of the Squadron and their parents to experience a formal dining in night following full mess rules.

The evening will include a formal meal, awards presentation and a guest speaker. The price for this evening of enjoyment is only £30.00 and we do hope that everyone is able to attend, as it is always a fun time for all.

Each year the committee subsidises all the cadets who attend the annual bag pack by paying for the price of their ticket. We do ask that returns are made, via the Awards Evening Invite Letter, as soon as possible as places are limited. This is due to a rapid expansion of the cadet numbers on the Squadron so we must implement a first come first served basis.

The dress code for the evening shall be as follows:

Male Cadets:                        No.4 Dress

Female Cadets:        Evening Dress

Male Guests:                        Black Tie

Female Guests:        Evening Dress

Staff:                           No.4 or No.5 Dress

We do ask that you make your returns, your slip and cheque, as soon as possible so we can guarantee you a place on the evening. Cheques are to made payable to 2494 (Portishead) Sqn and you are also able to pay by BACS. We look forward to seeing you there.

Note: It has come to my attention that some people are concerned that they would need to buy an outfit to attend. To clarify it is a smart dress event and while black tie outfit is preferred any suit or smart dress is acceptable.
Male cadets wear an interim mess dress consisting of their uniform trousers, a white shirt and a black tie (bow or normal).
Female cadets get a choice on interim mess dress (with skirt) or a smart evening dress (to below the knee with covered shoulders)

Portishead Remembrance Parade on Sunday

This is our biggest parade of the year and it’s important that as many cadets as possible attend.

We will meet at 0950 hrs on Stoke Road.
The parade will march off at 1020 hrs and head along the High Street to St Peter's Church for the Remembrance Service (some coins for the collection for charity would be good).
After the service the Royal British Legion will host a gathering at Clarence House (with a buffet) to which cadets are invited.

Uniform will be wedgewood (light) blue shirts with jumpers & ties. Acquire yourself a paper poppy (not crumpled) and a pin to attach it.

If you haven't been issued a black tie and can't borrow one (any plain black tie is acceptable) then as a fall back wear a working (dark) blue shirt.

For those cadets we have not been able to issue with uniform yet then school uniform is acceptable but make sure it is clean & presentable.

Black footwear for everybody (and give them a polish).

The parade is also a great opportunity for parents & family to see the cadets out in public.

For those cadets who feel 1 parade is not enough there is Clevedon (1446) Squadron's parade in the afternoon.

2017 Squadron Induction Night

The Squadron will be holding an induction evening for new recruits on the 27th of September. The evening will be at the Squadron HQ on Station Road, Portishead and will commence at 1930 Hours.

New recruits are to arrive from 1930 hrs with a parent/guardian to fill out a form (or two). Parents/guardians are then free to leave and collect at 2130 hrs. No specific clothing required but something practical is suggested.

We are open to children from School Year 8 up to 17 years old.

Attention Parents - AGM 26th June 2017

On Monday 26th June we will be holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Squadron HQ from 1900 onwards.

There will be a quiz and Mrs Chilcott will be doing Pulled Pork rolls. The cadets will be giving a presentation of recent activities and successes for the Squadron.

We would appreciate it if cadets parents can come down. This is a good opportunity to see how the squadron works and find out what is happening at the squadron. We look forward to seeing you.
